Reporter finds learning about animal shelter, problems it faces changes her life

 When I first began the story about the Texarkana Animal Shelter several months ago, I didn't know what I was getting into. Like many people, I avoided visiting the shelter because it's a very sad place, all those dogs and puppies, cats and kittens in cages. When you walk those halls, you can't help feeling guilty because you can't take every animal there home with you. It's haunting. They look at you with big eyes that beg to be running in a field somewhere or curled up on a couch with a gentle hand scratching them between the ears. I had no idea there were so many animals coming through the doors and I most definitely didn't realize the majority of those animals don't make it out alive.  [Read the Rest of this Story]
